Welcome to Year 1
In year 1 our aim is to make the children's learning fun and interactive. We hope the children will reach their full potential whilst enjoying this important first year in KS1.
The children are taught literacy and numeracy during the morning leaving the afternoons free where the children enjoy a varied curriculum which includes topic work, PE and music.
In literacy the children have been writing an information booklet all about different types of birds, they have enjoyed this topic so much that they have been taking their binoculars out and doing a bit of bird watching in the school garden during play times!
We have now moved on to learning all about traditional stories.
In numeracy the children have been learning their number bonds 5, 7 and 10. They have also been taught ordinal numbers for example: 1st, 2nd, 3rd and so on, this is reinforced every morning while discussing the date during registration.
The children are currently learning directional language such as left, right, in front and behind. We have all been fortunate enough to visit Marriotts School Gym on Friday afternoons; this has been a really enjoyable opportunity and has enabled the children to try out much of the gym equipment, such as the parallel bars and the trampoline.
