School Council

Our School Council gets pupils involved in the way the school is run. We have representatives from each class from Year 2 to Year 6. Each representative applies for the position and is voted in by the class. It is the responsibility of each Councillor to ensure that they express both their own views and the views of the children in their class. The council meets each week for 30 minutes. Its purpose is to raise school issues which are of concern to the children in each class, allowing them to have an input into the successful running of the school.

Our School Council is an opportunity for the pupils to make a change. The children have discussions, listen to each other and negotiate – all these skills help the children to become ace citizens.

What changes can our children make:

  • They can make more people come to the school
  • Help people by bringing in systems that help sort out arguments
  • Keep the playground clean
  • Make sure children support each other
  • Make the school a better place
  • Make sure everyone is valued and listened to
  • School Councillors make sure that everyone is involved

The children have a budget which helps them to feel they really can make a difference within realistic limits.
